Dermal Fillers
Juvéderm®, Radiesse® and Restylane®
Wrinkles form due to a combination of multiple factors. The lines that form on your face over time are a combination of skin aging, collagen depletion, and muscle movement. Wrinkles that are a result of a loss of collagen and sagging of the skin, called “static lines”, are ideal candidates for treatment with dermal fillers. Here at Eden Medispa we carry three brands of dermal fillers – Juvéderm®, Radiesse® and Restylane® – to enable us to treat a wide range of areas and better fit the client’s desired goals.
Juvéderm®, Radiesse®, and Restylane® are different brands of dermal fillers, all consisting of an injectable gel that is injected into or under the skin to add volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds.
Where do dermal fillers work? Most common areas for dermal fillers are the folds between the nose and corner of the mouth (the nasolabial folds), deep lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), marionette lines, under the eyes, shaping and contouring of the cheeks, and lip augmentation, but many other areas are also candidates when additional volume will enhance a client’s appearance and meet their goals. The photo here shows these and other places where filler treatments are common. At Eden Medispa, Belinda Mori, CFNP, is also trained in a proprietary technique, "the liquid thread lift", for adding volume to the cheek area which few other medical spas can offer. Filler can also be used on the back of the hands, a common area for collagen loss as people age.
How do dermal fillers work? The composition of the various fillers differ. Juvéderm® and Restylane® are based on a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid. These fillers are reversible in the event the client does not like the result. Radiesse filler utilizes a calcium- based microsphere technology and stimulates the body to produce new collagen. Regardless of which filler is used, the basic mechanism is to add volume in or under the skin where the wrinkle or fold of concern is located.
During treatment, one or more syringes of the filler is injected by a medical provider into the skin. The results of the treatment is immediate and there is no downtime. The results of filler usually last up to a year or longer. Some short-term bruising may occur in the area treated, and we offer a makeup "bruise kit" so that the client can cover up any bruising until it heals without worrying about any change in their social schedule.
What is the treatment like? The treatment is a procedure consisting of an injection of one or more syringes of the filler in the areas being treated. The average time for the treatment usually ranges from 30 to 45 minutes We offer a number of options to reduce client discomfort including the application of a numbing cream and for, sensitive areas like the lips, the use of a dental block. Also, a number of our fillers contain lidocaine, a common aesthetic, to provide a more comfortable experience during and after treatment.
Here at Eden Medispa, we have provided hundreds of filler treatments and both of our dermal filler providers - Lynore Martinez, MD and Belinda Mori, CFNP - have advanced training in injection techniques of these products. All brands of dermal fillers have extensive clinical studies to support their effectiveness and safety; there have been over 15 million treatments with dermal fillers over the past 12+ years.
