Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a cosmetic procedure used to treat "spider veins". Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution directly into the vein. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view. Sclerotherapy is the "gold standard" treatment for leg vein therapy. At Eden, we have been extensively trained in sclerotherapy techniques and utilize the safest and most effective agents for treatment.
The sclerosing agent is injected with a very fine needle directly into the blood vessel. The number of varicose veins injected in one session is variable, depending on the size and location of the veins. The sclerotherapy procedure takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
Sclerotherapy works well for most patients with varicose veins. As many as 50 to 80 percent of injected varicose veins may be eliminated with each injection session. In general, spider veins respond to sclerotherapy in 3 to 6 weeks, and larger veins respond in 3 to 4 months.
